You may have noticed how the Catalina Community Garden on Buckley Avenue, opposite the children’s playground, is looking ready to go. Plots are now ready and full of rich soil, ready and waiting for planting.

And here comes opening day! Put July 21 in your diary, 2-4pm (rain or shine). All are welcome to come see this beautiful new space.

Applicants who have requested a plot can choose their garden plot on the day and there’ll be a sausage sizzle for everyone, plus gardening advice on hand.

There are still some plots available and anyone interested in signing up for one, or to get involved in some other way, can get further information on the day.

The garden committee has worked for a long time to make this initiative happen and they want to thank everyone for their patience as it all came together.

The vision for the garden is to enhance the sense of community and social responsibility in Hobsonville Point through a shared garden and social space. It will create opportunities to improve physical health and wellbeing through activity and interacting with people, plants and nature. The garden will provide economic access to healthy food and will promote sustainability in food generation.
