Don’t miss Diwali this Saturday

Hobsonville Point will enjoy its very own Diwali Festival, #BlingonPoint, this Saturday, Oct 19, at the Sunderland Lounge, on the top corner of Hudson Bay Road.

A keen group of volunteers is putting together this fun, colourful, ‘festival of lights’ for everyone as a FREE event. Roll up any time after 5pm. There’ll be delicious Indian street eats and snacks ($5 a plate – EFTPOS available), wonderful live music and Bollywood dancing, with even a New Zealand Police dance crew showing off their moves.

Come wearing your brightest Indian wear and be in to win some great prizes for kids and adults.  By the way, if you’re short of Indian garb, Dee Trivedi has racks full of gorgeous sarees and outfits you can buy or hire at prices ranging from $10 to $100, with the proceeds being donated to a good cause in India. Contact her on 021 264 1101 for more info.

The organisers would love for children to come dressed up – you could play again with those strings of LED lights you had fun with at last June’s Sparkle Parade! The aim is to connect everyone in our diverse community, welcoming ALL to join in the celebration, and mix and mingle in the spirit of Diwali.

What is Diwali? It’s the biggest and brightest of Indian festivals and celebrates peace, prosperity and positivity. According to legend it marks the victory of good over evil, delivering us from darkness unto light.

Diwali is also Hindu New Year’s Eve. Essentially, it unites and unifies. This now global festival and is marked by an air of fun, freedom and friendliness everywhere – and here too.
