As you may be aware, a serious fire in the early hours of Friday morning (September 1) destroyed a building under construction on the corner of Hobsonville Point Road and Squadron Drive.
The emergency services arrived promptly when called by neighbours. Some neighbours were evacuated but were later allowed back into their homes once the fire was under control. Fortunately there was no injury or loss of life, and the firewalls were effective in limiting the fire to that building (which we hope gives confidence to Hobsonville Point residents).
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the experts and is unknown at present.
The HPRS Committee is grateful to the Fire Service and the Police for their prompt and efficient response to this emergency. We also express our thanks to the many residents who were quick to act, both by calling the emergency services and looking out for one another.
Please take care of your family and neighbours, and avoid the site if possible as emergency services continue to work onsite following the blaze.
If you discover a fire, call 111 immediately.
