I would like to extend a particularly warm welcome to the many newcomers to the area following the large number of settlements on new homes so far this year. Our membership now sits at over 900 homes/families and is steadily growing as the suburb continues to develop.
Unfortunately, Hobsonville Point has recently been the target for a series of overnight car break-ins. This criminal activity was widespread across several streets and distressing for all concerned. In light of these incidents, I would like to reiterate HPRS’ commitment to improving security within Hobsonville Point. We have fielded concerns from our members about this issue and, like you, want to foster a neighbourhood where people and property are safe and secure. With that in mind, myself and our deputy chairperson, Joan Vujcich, are continuing to work with HLC on security in the area. In conjunction with various industry experts, we have been looking closely at robust CCTV systems that will meet our needs, both now and in future as the suburb grows in size. I will keep you updated on our progress.
We have also been in contact with the Police and the Massey Community Patrol about security in the area, particularly in light of the latest car break-ins. In addition to reading their latest update, I encourage you to consider volunteering for the patrol. It needs members and further manpower would help improve the safety of our community and lessen opportunities for crime. Details on who to contact to sign up are included in the article.
I also urge you to do what you can on your property to reduce opportunities for crime, including parking vehicles in your garage to ensure they are safe and secure.
On a different note, all HPRS members will soon be emailed a survey from the committee about ferry services to the area. We hope to see the frequency of the service increased and are seeking your views on which time(s) would best suit you for extra sailings. Please keep an eye out for this email and let us know your preferences.
I would also like to draw your attention to HPRS’ 2017 Annual Meeting, which will be held at 6:30pm on October 24 at the Hobsonville Point Secondary School. Please mark this date in your diary now as we would love to see as many members there as possible.
In the meantime, keep an eye on our website – www.hprs.co.nz – and the community noticeboard, located in Hobsonville Point Park on the corner of De Havilland Road and Buckley Ave. The noticeboard is managed by the HPRS committee and is a great source of news and information about the many events happening in our community.
