Given recent concerns expressed by residents over the future zoning of Bomb Point Park, HPRS chairperson Errol Haarhoff wrote a letter last Friday to express the Society’s position on the park’s future.
It was sent to the Minister for Urban Development, Phil Twyford, as well as the MP for Upper Harbour, Paula Bennett; the mayor of Auckland, Phil Goff; the chair of the Upper Harbour Local Board, Margaret Miles; the chair of HLC’s board, John Duncan and HLC’s chief executive, Chris Aiken.
The Society asked for their comments on this long-standing and complex issue. The letter laid out the background and history behind the slow resolution of the matter, which has recently been troubling many locals who love the open, green space provided by Bomb Point. To read it, click here.
Then on Monday Aug 5, HLC put out a media statement which answered many of the questions raised. It is headed: HLC board confirms that Te Onekiritea (Bomb Point) is to permanently remain a reserve. Click here for the full text.
HLC chief executive Chris Aiken said ‘retaining Bomb Point as a reserve is a non-negotiable, and HLC intends to honour the original and current agreed joint masterplan.’ He added that residents could ‘rest assured that the HLC Board, as agents of the Crown, can confirm the 10.7 hectares of land will remain a reserve, as planned.’
Concerned residents are welcome to contact him directly on [email protected].
Best wishes,
HPRS Committee
