SUMMARY:Upper Harbour Eco Fun Day 2017
DESCRIPTION:Kaipatiki Project is partnering with Homes Land Community (HLC)\, the Upper Harbour Ecology Network (UHEN)\, Good Health\, the Upper Harbour Local Board and the Hobsonville Community Trust to bring you the Upper Harbour Eco Fun Day! This event will combine family fun\, learning\, music\, creativity\, nature and sustainable living – all in a festival atmosphere at the fantastic Rifle Range facility at Hobsonville Point. \nThe Rifle Range facility is located adjacent to Bomb Point Park and the Coastal Walkway\, so bring your walking shoes and cycles and explore the beautiful surroundings of Hobsonville Point. It’s a great free day out for locals\, it’s also a chance for community groups to connect with local conservation groups”. \nThere will be plenty to do:\n– Sustainable Whanau Challenge Launch: A fun\, four week online challenge which informs\, inspires and empowers families to live more sustainably. Great prizes too!\n– Compost Collective: Learn about the benefits of composting and how you can reduce your kerbside waste.\n– Guided walks and nursery tours: Walk and talk with Kaipatiki Project’s Restoration Ecologist\, Derek Craig.\n– The Great Drain Game: Learn about what you should (and shouldn’t!) put down drains with this fun\, interactive activity.\n– Sustainability themed games: Fun\, simple games for the kids such as Pest Free Bingo and an information treasure hunt.\n– Sustainable mini market: Check out great crafts using upcycled or sustainably sourced materials\, and products which will help you to reduce your environmental footprint.\n– Sustainable snacks: Enjoy yummy treats from Lalele Organic Gelato\, Altezano Organic Coffee and Hungry for Raw Vegan Food; or pack your own picnic basket with delicacies from the nearby Hobsonville Farmers Market. \nTo register your interest as a food or drink vendor please complete this quick form. \nTo register your interest as a general vendor\, activity provider\, community/environmental organisation or volunteer\, please complete this quick form.

SUMMARY:Free Community Restoration Leader Programme
DESCRIPTION:Do you like people\, plants and parks? Are you keen to rally others\, get them organised and make a difference to the environment? If so\, there is a free Community Restoration Leaders programme starting on 17 June. \nRun by Kaipatiki Project\, the environment centre of the North Shore\, this programme is aimed at giving people experience of managing planting days as a paid job\, as a volunteer co-ordinator\, or to kick-start a local planting project of their own. \nYou will get to learn real skills including plant ID\, laying out plants\, welcoming & managing volunteers\, promotion\, hosting (zero waste) events\, health & safety\, planning and team work. Along the way you will meet many interesting\, committed people\, have lots of fun and help plant 10-15\,000 plants over this winter. \nJanet Cole\, Manager of Kaipatiki Project\, says “Planting days are special because they are chances for people to really connect with the land. Members of the community get the most out of these occasions when they are given encouragement and a little bit of direction – that’s part of the job of a planting co-ordinator. We are looking forward to hearing from dedicated\, energetic people\, ready to learn and reap the benefits of this very rewarding programme”. \nThe training will run from 17 June till October\, and is centred around six community bushcare days –four at Eskdale Reserve Network in Glenfield\, North Shore and two in Upper Harbour. Participants will be expected to attend all six events\, (Saturdays 8am – 2pm) during which they will develop a wide range of skills from engaging with and directing others\, hosting and promoting community events\, to knowing which trees to plant where and how they should go into the ground. \nRegistrations close on 10th June. Anyone interested in registering or finding out more should visit www.kaipatiki.org.nz/courses to register your place.
