If you have lots of ideas on this and would love to get them going\, or are keen to get lots of ideas for your household\, please come along to get a group established and start generating ideas and actions over a cuppa. We will be doing some fun activities and having a chat about what else we might like to do in the future. We will be supported by Pip from Compost Collective\, so you can get a discount on a composting system if you didn’t get to the composting workshop last time. \nPlease RSVP to kathleen.waldock@hlc.co.nz

SUMMARY:Hobsonville [Point] Community Fund - Advisory Group Meeting
DESCRIPTION:HLC has set up a Hobsonville [Point] Community Fund under Auckland Foundation so that the community has a pool of funds available to benefit and strengthen it for present and future generations. Funds are granted to informal groups / individuals as well as registered charities as long as it is deemed for charitable purpose. \nThe fund requires an Advisory Group of 6-8 people to decide on the grants to support causes in Hobsonville Point and to lead and coordinate simple fundraising activities to generate additional funds. Auckland Foundation takes care of all the legal\, financial and administrative duties associated with a charitable foundation. \nIf you would like more information about applying to be on the Group\, please join Lettie Bright from Auckland Foundation and Kathleen Waldock from HLC for light refreshments on Tuesday 26 September at the Hobsonville Point Information Centre (Catalina Café building) at 7pm. Please RSVP by email to Kathleen.waldock@hlc.co.nz. For more information on the Fund\, please read this document or call Lettie at Auckland Foundation on 021 818 307.

SUMMARY:Upcoming Water Network Maintenance
DESCRIPTION:Watercare will be undertaking essential maintenance on a pump station near Triangle Road from 10:00pm on Saturday 24 June. \nNo one will be without water. However\, while we have worked hard to minimise any adverse impact on the water supply network\, there is a risk that the maintenance work may cause temporary discolouration to the water supply in your areas. \nHow might this affect me?\nYou might notice the water from your tap is temporarily discoloured between 10.00pm on Saturday 24 June and 11.00am on Sunday 25 June. \nThis is because over time\, harmless mineral deposits\, such as manganese\, can build up inside water pipes. When we carry out work that changes the speed of water flow in the pipes\, like we are doing at Triangle Road\, it can disturb these deposits. This sometimes causes discoloured water in your taps. \nBefore the work begins\nAlthough any discoloured water that results from this maintenance work is safe to drink\, you might want to store clear water from your taps before the work begins. \nBetween 10.00pm on Saturday 24 June and 11.00am on Sunday 25 June\n• Turn on a cold tap to check for discoloured water before drinking\, bathing or doing laundry.\n• If you can\, avoid using the washing machine or hand-washing laundry during this period\, as discoloured water may stain clothes.\nIf you have discoloured water\n• We expect any instances of discoloured water\, if they occur\, to be brief. Wait a while\, and then check your taps again.\n• Don’t wash any laundry\, as discoloured water may stain clothes. \nIf discolouration continues after 11am on Sunday\, please phone us on (09) 442 2222 and select option 1 for faults. We’re available 24/7. \nAny questions?\nPlease visit watercare.co.nz and search for ‘Triangle Road’ or phone us on (09) 442 2222.

SUMMARY:Free Community Restoration Leader Programme
DESCRIPTION:Do you like people\, plants and parks? Are you keen to rally others\, get them organised and make a difference to the environment? If so\, there is a free Community Restoration Leaders programme starting on 17 June. \nRun by Kaipatiki Project\, the environment centre of the North Shore\, this programme is aimed at giving people experience of managing planting days as a paid job\, as a volunteer co-ordinator\, or to kick-start a local planting project of their own. \nYou will get to learn real skills including plant ID\, laying out plants\, welcoming & managing volunteers\, promotion\, hosting (zero waste) events\, health & safety\, planning and team work. Along the way you will meet many interesting\, committed people\, have lots of fun and help plant 10-15\,000 plants over this winter. \nJanet Cole\, Manager of Kaipatiki Project\, says “Planting days are special because they are chances for people to really connect with the land. Members of the community get the most out of these occasions when they are given encouragement and a little bit of direction – that’s part of the job of a planting co-ordinator. We are looking forward to hearing from dedicated\, energetic people\, ready to learn and reap the benefits of this very rewarding programme”. \nThe training will run from 17 June till October\, and is centred around six community bushcare days –four at Eskdale Reserve Network in Glenfield\, North Shore and two in Upper Harbour. Participants will be expected to attend all six events\, (Saturdays 8am – 2pm) during which they will develop a wide range of skills from engaging with and directing others\, hosting and promoting community events\, to knowing which trees to plant where and how they should go into the ground. \nRegistrations close on 10th June. Anyone interested in registering or finding out more should visit www.kaipatiki.org.nz/courses to register your place.
