As part of HLC’s pest management programme, there will be a rabbit shoot at Bomb Point and surrounding areas for 1 or 2 nights early next week (week beginning 17 December). Rabbits are causing significant damage to native plants, which is also the food and habitat of native birds.

Rabbits are classified as ‘Unwanted Organisms’ under New Zealand’s Biosecurity Act 1993, meaning they can be hunted and controlled anywhere, at any time by any legal and humane means. Controlled shoots are an effective and humane method to control numbers.

Activity will happen very late at night/early morning hours. Signage will be installed in the area beforehand.
